I like movies a lot. I worry about right-wing extremism. I play and sometimes write tabletop RPGs. I do SRE things but don’t speak for my employer here. I grew up in New England and live with my wife in Seattle. He/his. https://innocence.com/~durrell

Depends on the man, no? I would expect that Chris Rufo or Andy Ngo would draw just as much disapproval.

Anyhow: that was fun, and of course more fun in company. I can see why Carpenter was a bit reluctant to try and make a better version though he certainly pulled it off. But as a 50s horror thriller action science fiction piece, this wasn’t at all bad. #HorrorWatch

Wait, is *that* where “Watch the skies!” comes from? I had no idea. #HorrorWatch

Maybe I’m Team Scott. He’s spunky too. #HorrorWatch

Yep, got that prediction right anyhow. I’m still sort of on Team Carrington just because Hendry is such a ween. #HorrorWatch bsky.app/profile/inno...

Setting up that science vs. manly men contrast, aren’t we? #HorrorWatch

#HorrorWatch, meet the limitations of 50s VFX. That wasn’t all that scary a carrot monster.

This has absolutely become really creepy. Those little bulbs and Doctor Carrington’s determination are gonna be a bad mix. #HorrorWatch

“Tropical Tilly,” huh? I’ve seen enough; Howard Hawks was the primary director on this, one way or another. #HorrorWatch

Doctor Carrington is obsessive, but not quite obsessive enough to open the cabinet himself. That’s what grad students are for. #HorrorWatch

Whoops, I lost my bet. Stupidity frees the beast, not curiosity. #HorrorWatch

That’s a woman who’s used to dealing with a base full of men in the 1950s. #HorrorWatch

Putting my bet down now that Doctor Carrington is gonna sneak back in and thaw that thing. #HorrorWatch

Man, anything the Thing does now is kind of understandable. #HorrorWatch

Man, they’re far more open to the idea that it’s an alien visitor than I’m used to. You expect the first act to be full of denial and doubt. This is refreshing. #HorrorWatch

Wait, I was thinking about growing one.

Whoa, is this a pre-Code movie? “When I woke up in the morning, you were gone!” Apparently the Kurt Russell part is played by Margaret Sheridan. #HorrorWatch

From experience, watching a Hawks movie with an airplane buff is an entirely different experience.

There were no dogs on my recent flight back to Seattle and I’m now resentful. Also I haven’t figured out who’s playing Kurt Russell in this version. #HorrorWatch

Lost a couple of minutes because I hit play on the trailer which was just a scene from the movie? All good. #HorrorWatch

Tonight! Tonight! The greatest night of the week! #HorrorWatch! Join us at 9PM EST tonight as we watch the original Howard Hawks classic, The Thing from Another World! You probably know it for it's remake, The Thing by Carpenter. Both based on the classic weird horror story, Who Goes There?

Queuing up Thing From Another World for #Horrorwatch — wasn’t planned for tonight but it’s also on our #Hooptober list so uh I guess it’s gonna be a four horror movie day. Mute this thread if you don’t want my live watch.
