A patron recently came to Gum Spring's Makerspace to personalize an apron for her mother-in-law's birthday. She used Inkscape's software to convert all the grandkids' handwritten names into an embroidery file. Then, she used the embroidery machine to finish this unique and meaningful gift.

an open source tool that I think has undergone a similar glow-up to Blender/Godot is Inkscape. I remember using this like over a decade ago and it was ass, but now it's awesome

I know I've mentioned this before, but Inkscape's font browser is really top flight. This makes me not feel the need to install some other kind of manager. It's got user collections. It shows a preview. It's not a dropdown menu, but an actual stable chunk of UI.

Would like a preview in place.
