It looks like I may be moving back to Sault Ste Marie in December. I missed being on the Great Lakes, so it will be nice to be back!

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

Miss Major has passed away. We've lost an icon for the ages. Rest in power.
Alt text:
Miss Major with long wavy gray hair sits outdoors in a chair, wearing a brightly colored geometric-patterned dress. She looks thoughtful and serene, with her hands resting in her lap. Trees and plants surround her in the background, giving the scene a peaceful setting. The image appears as a social media post with text and engagement icons below.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

We honor the legacy of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a fierce protector of our collective freedom. Our hearts are with her loved ones and all who carry her vision forward.

"We will honor Miss Major forever." - @imarajones.bsky.social
An illustration of Miss Major surrounded by candles with blue background and a famous quote of hers written in gold. The quote reads“I don’t need their permission to exist; I exist in spite of them. I want you to train and teach and love on and create families within my community and gender non-conforming people, so that we can understand that we have a culture, we have a history, we have a reason to be here. We have a purpose. We’re entitled to be loved, and seek happiness, and share that with the people that we care about.” -Miss Major Griffin-Gracy

Two paths diverged in a wood, and I–
I took the one more traveled by;
Because the wood is still a full ecosystem and leaving the maintained path can damage it,
Also I don't want ticks or wet socks
A photo of an open section in an autumn forest, there is a rocky dirt path on the right and a half-formed path through tall grasses and possibly reeds to the left.

Lol the Nobels can't even acknowledge women's contribution to discovery. But sure let's acknowledge The Machines.
Headline from an article in Nature this week that states "Prizes must recognize machine contributions to discovery. The future of science will be written by humans and machines together. Awards should reflect that reality."

✨New publication alert✨: “Recommendations from the Sea Grant-Led Invasive Species Language Workshop” — a report on the workshop I organized in DC last year!

Message frames and metaphors are commonly used within science communication to discuss complex topics, including invasive species. While these communication tools are undoubtedly helpful, the ecological process of invasion juxtaposed with the use of militaristic and nativist language can have unintended consequences that are counterproductive to management efforts. Species naming conventions are likewise complex, with some species bearing names that may reinforce xenophobic concepts or contain racial slurs. Despite the known need, there have been limited national efforts to develop better and more inclusive guidelines for invasive species communication...

Hello to @moderation.bsky.app
I would like to file a complant of blatant bigotry against your
@moderation.bsky.app for discrimation against disabled ppl.

You have declared that a fully clothed person with a prosthetic leg and eye to somehow be "Adult Content"

Disability isn't "Adult content"
Screen cpature of a post that has been declared "Adult Content" by moderation team.

I could name a few but for disability reason and the Halloween season I am m going with In / Spectre

It’s got a very weird but cool metaplot with one of the coolest “action” scene culminations and it’s so openly & fearlessly blunt about disability … especially the reality of Kotoko‘s prosthetics.

As I get into the sexual selection and sexual dimorphism part of my evolution module, a reminder:

In Northern Cardinals, the males are bright red. The females are a brown/gray, with orange beaks.

So if you see two bright red birds snuggling together on wrapping paper or a card: they're gay.
