I was advised to think of it like this: the PhD is training in thinking and researching. Being right is just a bonus.

(With the caveat that advisors usually need you to be right, lol)

Part of the mindfuck is knowing all the holes, shortcuts, and problems with your thesis. Not saying that’s Sophie’s experience, which sounds like it came with its own challenges, but it was mine.

AHEM
A man whose face has been painted like a white and red St George’s cross roundabout is wearing a white cape and drinking out of a St George’s cross beer helmet. The helmet has two cans strapped to either side of his head and connected to his mouth via a drinking tube. He looks pleased.
