🆕 Several Earth system components may be closer to destabilisation than previously thought. Crossing key temperature thresholds could trigger feedback loops, pushing the planet toward a “Hothouse Earth” trajectory. Study by @oregonstate.edu, @iiasa.ac.at & PIK: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Het grootste riool van Europa was ooit de bijnaam van de Rijn. Inmiddels zijn er strenge regels en drijven er geen dode vissen meer in de rivier. Nu is het onzichtbare gevaar: onbekende chemische…

When we trawled data on excess nitrate & phosphate pollution (key drivers of algal blooms) we found agriculture was the primary source in rural areas, sewage in urban areas. As Chowns says, to save our rivers, we need to tackle both.

Well, doing nothing to improve the water quality of Iowa’s streams didn't work, so I guess changing the definition of "impaired water" is all that can be done.

Timflow is a new Python package for analytic element modelling of groundwater flow in multi-aquifer systems (i.e, no grid and no time stepping!). Applications vary from designing well fields and capture zone delineation to aquifer test analysis. Both steady and transient flow are supported.

Over a year’s worth of rain — and it’s only early February. This is hydrologically absurd.

Pretty horrific account about an Irish (and thus also EU) citizen being held by ICE since September last year, despite having a legal work and residence permit in the US and being married to an US citizen.
"He said he has been locked in the same large, cold and damp room for 4½ months with more than 70 men. He said detainees are constantly hungry because meals served at tables in the centre of the room offer only child-sized portions." www.irishtimes.com/world/us/202...
