I have an influx of new followers and I'd like to say hello!

I'm an Ecology and Conservation student at CMU with focuses on wetlands. I've done work with cataloging macrolepidoptera and currently volunteer with my local watersheds to perform invertebrate sampling.

I feel Pavlov'd to participate in stuff like this. There was a time when the experience of Applebee's w friends and getting shit faced for cheap was like, somewhat nostalgic and worth it.

Am I paying to feel that way again? Cause every third space been overly costly on the consumers and downgraded.

Across the board this is def true, and not just of restaurants. Everything has stooped in quality since in varying degrees of severity.

Blows my mind some people aren't bitter about it, I've cut out most spending cause everything (esp convenience eating) is terrible quality

They've fallen off a bit but are still widely popular. I feel like most stuff was better back in the day anyways.

Here's an awesome critter for #Arachtober, a harvestman/harvester/daddy longlegs (order Opiliones). It's an arachnid that's not a spider; they don't produce venom or silk, and unlike most arachnids, can swallow chunks of solid food. This gorgeous burgundy individual was in Costa Rica. 🐙🌿 #Bugsky

As a child I ate government cheese and free school lunches. I then went on to uni thanks largely to Pell grants.

I now (HAPPILY) pay taxes on an income that would not have been possible without that support.

Taking care of your citizens is good actually.

Just thinking: I am a double-boarded physician-scientist at @uclahealth.org, but I grew up in poverty. Gov't provided the welfare & foodstamps that aided my refugee family. Gov't grants subsidized my education.

I am only where I am today bc of the #America that was. And it makes me want to cry.
