I was on a ferry that had to wait outside Holyhead for about 3 hours because of stormy weather. It’s even less enjoyable than being stranded inside Holyhead.

You’d think there would be more waving incense around and singing and stuff .
Seems a bit anticlimactic. www.rte.ie/news/ireland...

The full transcript of Zohran Mamdani's acceptance speech is very much worth reading in full. Even if you don't agree with your politics, it's very beautifully put together.

I see it's time for me to make the point again that the poppy is a fundraising campaign for the Royal British Legion, a specific, mundane entity that is not exempt from scrutiny and does not own the concept of remembrance.

Can’t beat the old classics and nothing is more classic than a public representative looking around incredulously wondering aloud “how can we possibly be in this state, surely this is not the fault of me a longtime TD/Senator/councillor and lifelong party hack?”

I’m not a massive fan of this business where members of the Oireachtas can back someone and pledge their nomination without it being public.

I’m also not keen on whole “if someone reaches a certain number we’ll push them over the line”
