It’s hilarious “Oh isn’t it amazing he’s been minister for Foreign Affairs and minister for Finance he must be so respected.”

He gave himself those jobs!

Martin and Connolly may be rubber stamping them but he’s the one doing the appointing for the ministries assigned to FG.

Could have just rolled up to whoever is in charge of the CoI with a wheelbarrow of cash and pointed at Christchurch and St Patrick’s and said “give us of them will yeh”

This is what I thought too, i don’t think it was ever explicitly stated but I was under the impression that there were a few hints to it at various points.

I refuse to check if that’s true so I can carry on believing forever.

Like with the tooth fairy.

“Secondly, one wonders how immigrants or members of non-Gaelic speaking traditions on this island could go about obtaining employment at the Àras.” If only they had a boss who could provide a living example of how it’s possible to learn a language as an adult.

“The president-elect herself would not have met the standard she is setting until well into adulthood.” Oh my god she learned Irish an adult? The very thing her opponent claimed she would do a decade ago? How has this scandal only been uncovered now?

Same town, different estate. I never found out where the demarcation line was because I was too busy eating sweets and apples with razor blades embedded them.

When I was a lad on the mean streets of north county Dublin we used to say “help the Halloween party” for we were loyal gaels. When I was 11 we moved about a kilometre up road and it was a “trick or treat” area, it was very discombobulating.

That was mid 80s.

If you can’t convince 20-100 people that you’re qualified enough just to be on the ballot you have no hope.

Including MEPs not a bad idea but the real issue is parties whipping TDs, Senators and councillors which is an internal party matter rather than a constitutional or legislative one.

I don’t think it’s something that needs to change much if at all.

4 councils out of 31 is not a lot, realistically you’re talking about persuading less than 100 people to either nominate you or not actively oppose you.

20 members of the Oireachtas is only about 8.5% of the total.
