Every now and then I go back and read the Citizens United ruling to see if it is as unhinged as I thought, and every time I do that I see it is actually far more deranged than I remembered.

Yes, a key combo can't function as a modifier key like ctrl is.

There's a lot of key codes they could've used instead of a key combo (like the f13 onwards) but they didn't. Maybe due to incompetence, maybe to intentionally block people from repurposing the key as a modifier.

There's a very strong argument that the failures of Democrats and liberals to halt the authoritarian takeover comes down to them spending 25 years building an ideology & media infrastructure designed to avoid accepting or even acknowledging the truth of this one FDR quote.

“Democracy has disappeared in several other great nations, not because the people of those nations disliked democracy, but because they had grown tired of unemployment and insecurity, of seeing their children hungry while they sat helpless in the face of government confusion and government weakness through lack of leadership,” FDR said in a 1938 radio address. “Finally, in desperation, they chose to sacrifice liberty in the hope of getting something to eat.”

Outsiders don't know how bad it is to actually live in the UK if you aren't already rich.

People are basing their decisions on stereotypes that are decades old. This information spreads very slowly. Moving to UK literally cured me from supporting capitalism, seeing how poor people get in the end.
