I am only half-joking. Ghostbusters fan franchises have raised a *lot* of money for local charities and bank goodwill from their communities. A citizen gets black-bag abducted playing Ray Parker Jr. and no one speaks up?

A musician, Oriana Korol, was peacefully playing clarinet with her protest band outside ICE facilities in Portland, OR.

When the band started playing “Ghostbusters,” ICE thugs suddenly poured outside, slammed her into the mud, arrested her and took her to a jail 9 miles away in Vancouver, WA.

It's also a grievance-based culture, which I think is more to the point of Dave's observation. The slights are not forgotten because they're a motivating force and a way to delegitimize their opposition as 'always having been wrong.' For goodness sakes, they still bring up Robert Bork!

Or maybe, just maybe, what was obvious in 2024 was correct: Netanyahu fully backed Trump and would not deal with Biden because Trump would give him a free hand to escalate the starvation, bombing, and do full ethnic cleansing. Which he then did, until Netanyahu embarrassed him by bombing Qatar.

a couple of people have criticized this "but what if you do bad things with all that power" but like. look around you. the right has already grasped the power at hand and is using it. "republicans use the state to advance their goals; democrats unilaterally disarm" is not a sustainable equilibrium!

Came here to echo exactly this, only I'd change the word 'greatness' to 'betters'. I swear, at times it's like political hipsterdom where some of these folx *need* you to know they picked their choice because they're *better than you.*
