Shuffling fiction into dozens of discrete genres allows it to survive economically but it turns the authors and audience into inbred closed systems feeding only on themselves.
Top funny thing from @adapalmer.bsky.social ‘s INVENTING THE RENAISSANCE: “Filippino Lippi’s Saint Thomas Aquinas Interrupts the Annunciation to Introduce the Virgin Mary to Cardinal Carafa who paid for the painting, while patient Archangel Gabriel just has to wait.”
These goofballs had a sincere streak under all the silly jokes. The Dead Milkmen helped me find a way to be a teddy bear of a wiseass as a teen (though, like them, I didn't always get the balance right). Thanks guys! www.youtube.com/watch?v=jhcO...
I feel ya. I was down a long time. All I can say is you’re not alone. Also try to notice the little things that bring you joy. It’s easy to dismiss the minor things as not worth bothering with when it’s rough but they accumulate.
Happy news! I got in contact with someone who had digital versions of the newsletter of Kay Woollard's smial which ran from 84 to 87, which gave me access to some more of her art.
She did a series of comic strips about a hobbit child called Wilmot who has a catch phrase "I'VE THUNK"
Interesting! I love all the history and the culture around the book but I don’t feel the hook of the book itself. I think a lot of that is my poor latin and poetic choices are hard to translate.
From what I remember of the latin I hacked at back then, Virgil’s verse is special. His alliteration, his images, his choices have kept it known. Thousands of years of study and commentary and pleasure. The 2nd most read book after the bible. Aeneas still a cardboard placeholder of a person.
Reading the Aeneid for the first time since high school. Aeneas is just empty duty; his lack of character is why I haven’t revisited it in decades while I read the Homeric epics every few years. The only person in the Aeneid is Dido, one of the greatest characters in ancient epic but it’s not enough
Yes, you technically are on a spectrum but it has a specific use that you’re flippantly dismissing. It is for people who are neurodiverse. There is a spectrum for something like autism, with very different issues and presentation. And it’s not a line you “fall off.” This isn’t for your yucks.
Linda Ronstadt has many career highlights and Mas Canciones is one of them. That amazing voice shines on those songs, like here with her brothers on closer "El Sueno" www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxD3...
