It's not conscious, but it's not "just autocomplete" either. It's certainly a hell of a lot better than getting advice from a pastor or James Dobson.

This is the one I can’t get over, because for all the handwringing about out-of-touch liberal media elites, none of them would’ve ever thought that Middle America wants to hear, “Great news, we’ve got a Harvard professor and a New York Times columnist lined up to debate whether you need God.”

What's wild to me is that this comes from City Journal, the main publication of the Manhattan Institute, a quite right-wing think tank.
Which is to say: if these (often horrific) responses are cherry-picked, the group doing the picking has an incentive to make them look as GOOD as possible.

My sense is that the “male loneliness crisis” is not really about addressing men’s emotional needs but rather the relatively newfound absence of having someone to perform domestic labor for you quietly in the background now that there is a longer gap between your mother and your wife doing it

IMO Trump should make our assessments of GWB and Reagan much worse, not better. Trump’s militarism shouldn’t make the gwot seem more rational by comparison, it should look much worse from today’s vantage. Idk why so many get this backwards.
