Not that strange. The EU is based on an anti-authoritarian consensus (rule of law, shared sovereignty). Our economic model is one of Rhineland welfare statism and ordo-liberal economics. And Europe’s cultural foundation is liberal multiculturalism. We’re in everything the antithesis of MAGA fascism.

A court with a normal-ish conservative majority would have been tolerable. I'm not eager for court packing, impeaching justices, and other such options. But this court sticking around post-Trump is untenable. They've already torched their own legitimacy, the only question is what do we do about it.
Democrats need to lay the groundwork for reform by attacking the villains on the Supreme Court - loudly, angrily, personally, relentlessly. And they should start now.

If anyone in Europe was still clinging to the idea that the Trump administration isn't immovably pro-Russian and hostile to Western institutions and values, they need to read the 2025 National Security Strategy and think again.

The new National Security Strategy is a propaganda document, designed to be widely read. It is also a performative suicide. Hard to think of another great power ever abdicating its influence so quickly and so publicly. It will be worth following the reactions around the world, not just in Europe.
