One thing about "original intent" is that the original Constitution was so hostile to the President that their rival was made Vice President, but now we have SCOTUS "originalists" happily giving the President absolute power over everything.*

* So long as they're a Republican.
the whole structure of this argument — independent agencies are politically unaccountable therefore the president must have removal power — treats congress as if it were a total nullity, or as if only the president truly represents the public.

We know this isn’t true because if the EU was Nazi-like, Musk wouldn’t be fighting it. He’d be saluting it.
The EU was created in by people who lived through WWII and saw political and economic integration as a means to bringing peace and stability to the continent.

It is being opposed by Putin, Musk and the others who support Neo Nazis in Europe.

The only person who didn't see this coming was Chuck Schumer.
Senate Republicans still leaning toward not offering an alternative to Dems' ACA subsidies plan this week, per sources

“We will clearly reject the Democrats’ offer,” said Sen. Cramer.

Maybe bipartisan negotiations after, but Rs very divided on health care

Exclusive: Senate Republicans divided over expiring health care subsidies
President Donald Trump’s party may simply try to unite against Democrats’ three-year extension of expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits.

What I always hear: “We can’t afford to pay our workers more than $15 an hour.”

What I never hear: “We can’t afford to pay our CEO millions of dollars a year.”

Funny how that works.

Actually, killing AI in its infancy is a perfect fucking idea.
One ring to rule them all,
One ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all
And in the darkness bind them.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), to reporters, after viewing video footage of the U.S. strikes on alleged drug boats in the Caribbean on Sept. 2:

"Righteous strikes." "Entirely lawful."

Records that are properly classified can STILL be declassified if their release is in the public interest.

Federal agencies can declassify records this way, and so can the Senate Intelligence Committee.

There is, quite literally, no excuse, for the OLC opinion or the video to be secret.
They need to release this video to the public

If we're not at war, Pete Hegseth is a murderer. If we are at war, Pete Hegseth is still a murderer. He's a murderer. And you don't need to go to The Hague to hold him accountable because there are perfectly good, American laws AGAINST MURDER.
My latest in @thenation.com
Pete Hegseth Should Be Charged With Murder
No matter how you look at the strikes on alleged “drug boats”—as acts of war or attacks on civilians—Hegseth has committed a crime and should be prosecuted.

I would not get in a car if Hakeem Jeffries was driving. We can’t continue to let him and those like him “lead” a milquetoast opposition to overt fascism.

Primary appeasers.
Elect fighters.
Jeffries: "The border is secure. That's a good thing. It happened on his watch. He wants to claim credit for it, of course he'll get credit for that. In terms of making sure that we actually deal with the issues that matter, including on immigration, there's a lot that's left to be desired."

When I say Spotify is Surveillance, I don’t just mean it’s creepy that they are tracking what music you listen to and using that data to serve ads.

I mean your Spotify data is deeply intimate and can be used to glean information about you like your daily habits, your moods, and more.

Trump: "I took my physical. I got all As. Everything. But they said to me, 'would you like to take a cognitive test?' I said, 'Is it hard?' They said, 'yes.' I said, 'Well, I'm a very smart person. Who was the last president to take one?' 'No president has ever agreed to take one' ... I aced it."

I feel like, "Why do Trump's doctors keep administering cognitive exams to him?" is a question the media might want to pursue, if for some reason they were inclined to apply the same standards to a Republican politician that they do to Democratic ones.
There is no reason for anyone to be intimidated by this unpopular failing lame duck whose mental and physical health is circling the drain
Four polls in recent days now have Trump in the 30s, with 3 at 35%-36%: 2/
35%-62% (-27) ARG
35%-56% (-21) High Point University
36%-60% (-24) Gallup
38%-57% (-19) Econ/YouGov
Again, Trump just keeps dropping.

First reporter to respond to this sorta thing with "Actually, you're the stupid person" would become an instant superstar.
Q: Officials say the suspect in the DC shooting was vetted & it came up clean

TRUMP: He went cuckoo. He went nuts. There was no vetting

Q: Actually, your DOJ IG says there was thorough vetting of Afghans. So why blame Biden?

TRUMP: You're just asking questions because you're a stupid person

I can’t believe people in the room don’t push back. It doesn’t matter if he’s the president, part of holding him accountable is standing up to his bullying— especially if he’s doing it right in front of your face
“You’re a stupid person” — Trump lashes out at a reporter who presses him on the fact that the suspected DC shooter was actually thoroughly vetted before he was let in the US from Afghanistan

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.
