Not that long ago, I didn't really have hope that I could get better. I still don't think this is something I can ever be rid of, and it hurts. I want to feel whole. I want to feel at peace.

But there is a way to live beside it, and I'm taking small steps. Talking. Understanding. Creating. 💜

"at least it wasn't [insert horrible thing]". But I feel the effects every day. No aspect of my life is free from them. It's a boulder on my shoulders, hands around my throat, damage that is a never-ending reminder of itself. I don't often talk about it, but I write it in my books, and it helps. 3/4

I've been in therapy for 3 years now and understand myself better. It's very slow progress--I don't always know what I'm trying to change and how when my whole personality was largely formed by experiences that shouldn't happen to a child/teen. It's also insidious: it could have been worse, 2/4

It's World Mental Health Day, people are sharing their stories, and it made me want to share too.

I had bad social/general anxiety since I was little, depression and low self-worth through high school, uni, and beyond. Not diagnosed, but likely all that comes from a bunch of childhood trauma. 1/4
