Day 26: Deciding on book titles

It could be a phrase spoken in the book that has layers of meaning (like Far Removed). The Tidelings of Dras Sayve is quite literal, but it also just sounds nice. It's intriguing if you don't know what tidelings are or where Dras Sayve is.

Borges could change the entire mood of a scene with *one* adjective.

Not a dramatic one, but an unexpected one.
➡️"The *unanimous* night."
➡️"An evening that was *near, yet infinite*."
➡️"A mirror that *troubled* a hallway."

Why do these work? A thread 👇🏻 (1/4)

Day 25: Art and artist

I draw my own cover and character art, and I've got some commissions for other authors underway. An art swap with artist friends is still on the cards.
On 5 September 2023, I released Far Removed. The number 2 comes up a lot in this story – a fact
@andresstein.bsky.social reminded me of yesterday. So I am setting the epub at $2 for the rest of September. By next year, the Apidecca Duology will be complete.

I have something rather special to share on the 26th.
It's a secret project that I've been preparing (with the help of a talented collaborator) for some months... 🌊🐚

I was worried about a rapidly-growing lump I found on Pip, but it turned out to be nothing more than a grass seed stuck deep in her skin. She had to be sedated so that it could be cut out, but she is home now and doing well.

🤍 This review made my day.
Latest read by @cblansdell.bsky.social! Specifically I listened to the audiobook.
A lovely book about identity and one's place in the world. There is a depth of applaudably organic worldbuilding and very genuine and heartfelt character interactions and dynamics.
A profoundly human story.

Day 17: Hobbies

None for the foreseeable future 😅. Well, except for walking my dogs, which is a must.
I've handed over my sequel's manuscript to beta readers and am now catching up on art commissions!

I think this is the first time I've gotten a photo of my debut as a library book (unless I count neighbourhood libraries).
This is such a special moment.
If you can request indie books at your library, please consider it 📚
I just got @cblansdell.bsky.social into my local library system. I can't wait to dive into the mystery, I'm so excited!

This has quickly become one of my favorite things to do 😄
If you'd like to see your book in the library, leave a comment!

Our socialite, Pip, at daycare (while I was on holiday last week) and Dee, our homely dog, in a sandpit. Both are rescues. Dee kept me up nearly all of last night because she's so scared of the strong wind.

I'm in the first 3rd of Serpentus, and I can confirm that this book deserves more readers. Told from the perspective of a knight who is up against hopeless odds, it offers a really unique take on fantasy warfare. Owen's goal isn't an underdog victory, but survival.
The author and one of her books...

I chose to showcase Serpentus today because I love this book (I could say that about all of my books, but this is in my top 3 favorites of the 11 I've published.)

Book review time! An Ambitious Woman and her Very Normal Pet was a refreshing take on necromancy. Not often do you read a story where the MC dies in the first chapter. 5⭐️ Full review below:

Day 12: Writing advice.

A lot of writing advice is very subjective. E.g.: showing and telling both have their place, but you may need to use one more than another in different contexts. The only bad advice is the kind that tells you to let a machine write for you.

Day 11: What genre do you write in?

Let's go with speculative fiction – that covers all my bases. Fantasy, sci-fi, horror, literary fiction.
