Sir Terry Pratchett was an extremely talented and successful mystery novelist

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
OK I've been complaining that the takes haven't been unhinged (positive) enough but this is great, kudos, I appreciate this very much

She's a better straight novelist than 99% of golden age mystery writers IMO, but just happened to write in that genre- she just loved mysteries so kept writing them in addition to her side gigs of promoting/reviewing them
Her books are my faves but don't really fit in with the genre as written then

I could never get into Allingham's books (I read the first ten or so and at some point realized that they were all blending together in my head and I wasn't absorbing anything)
But there were a number of people who were not as good novelists as Sayers but were better than her at mystery writing

Hypothetical? I got this more easily than I get 90% of memes on here

Also Washington Heights!! I I really really hope we get new construction!

It used to- lots of places don’t offer it anymore

This looks excellent for these purposes, thank you!

I just really admire his ability to not just come up with a fun concept for a sketch but find all the little jokes within the setup and then actually end it with a bang. One of my favorite sketches.

I know some VERY general stuff that comes up in the context of Jewish history, but on observing more rituals in communities outside my own (and also thinking about what I DO know about my own community) it occurred to me I want to know more about how this all develops.

Really not anything specific! I've just been thinking about how services are constructed- why different denominations and congregations and communities choose to and not to pray in particular ways, use particular prayers, translate or not translate, etc.

All extremely helpful, thank you!!

Amazing, thank you- and what fortuitous timing!
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Thanks- this does look very interesting!

Thanks- can be a project at some point rather than casual light reading!

IDK if I have enough Jewish Studies followers on here but-

Interested in any books on the development of Jewish liturgy- preferably in English. Any topic from medieval piyut to the introduction of guitar into services to whatever else. Maybe books from rabbinical/cantorial school reading lists?

My guess is they figure that Cuomo will be much more vengeful if he wins without their support than Mamdani will be, and IMO they're probably right

OOOOHH

Having already heard you teach a couple of times (not trying to be creepy, I was just fortunate enough to be part of a few class trips to your library!) that sounds incredible

Do you know what kind of attendance/response the exhibit is getting at all?
hannahstohelit.bsky.social
Oh interesting, I wonder who that is! I don’t think I’m available at any tour times but I want to take one, this is the kind of exhibit where a really good tour guide would change my life
