Yes, there is no exact approximation of kireji in English. Sometimes in English we use two lines, three lines, and even four to show the cut more, despite punctuation. Writing a one-line haiku in English sometimes lends to more readings, though.

Haiku is traditionally written in one line in Japanese. In English, it is usually written in 1-4 lines. Syllables don’t match well with Japanese sound units. The closest approximation is 3-5-3 syllables but even that is not accurate due to language differences. Please read more about the subject.
