This (pretty cranky) poem shares the pages of the incredible Madrid Review with some up-and-comers like Salman Rushdie & Jay McInerney. Remember the names! :)

Also, there are some signed copies of the last book in Dubray Books on Mary Street in Dublin.

Thanks for reading. :)

#Critical #junctures are tightening clouds
before a storm decides whether to break or drift,
suspended in a disciplined and tempered stillness,
poised at the boundary where consequence gathers,
where one calibrated shift of wind determines
which distant horizon will inherit the rain.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Your morning reminder- if your feed is stressing you out, remember that you can mute words for 24 hours.

I promise that if something genuinely huge happens, it will break containment and you’ll know.

Brought to you by muting SCOTUS and court for the day…

I recall reading about this a long time ago (the 90s?): Mothers (with $) from Russia coming over to have their babies in the U.S.

If SCOTUS ends birthright citizenship I have to assume this ends & these Russian/U.S. citizens will be detained/deported.

Mother Russia: South Florida sees a boom in 'birth tourism'
Every year, hundreds of pregnant Russian women travel to the United States to give birth so that their child can acquire the privileges of American citizenship.

If SCOTUS ends birthright citizenship:

& both your parents were undocumented when you were born in the U.S.

or your mom came to the U.S. on a VISA & gave birth to you here to assure your citizenship

You can be detained & deported.

All others: It’s time to find your parents’ birth certificates.
