Covid is very heavily linked with brain damage and cognitive decline so I think a lot of us, even me, haven't been quite the same since becoming sick with it, even if one time. Even though it was already rough before, things became way worse post 2019-2020... no doubt about it.
I'm worried that Covid actually did damage a lot of people's brains but its hard to know since I'm Gen Z and I don't know 100% what it was like in previous years that isn't biased by childhood memory
