We Remember. We Ride Together.

On Aug 29, a cyclist was killed at Elmira Rd N & Massey Rd in Guelph.

On Oct 18, we’ll ride together to honour their life and install a ghost bike donated by ARC - Advocacy for Respect for Cyclists to call for safer streets for everyone who walks, wheels, and rides.

Here’s a good example of calling out liars lying about better city-building, via @taylornoakes.com in @cultmtl.com:

“What’s particularly annoying about Roberts’ column is that he’s using his position of power to reinforce ignorance. Shame on him for doing so, but especially the Montreal Gazette…”
Latest bit of Montreal 'bikelash' sidesteps the facts to please bike-lane haters
The findings of a study about bike lanes vs car infrastructure have been twisted by a Montreal publication in a cheap bit of bikelash.

People who hate on others for enjoying a different kind of bicycle are doing the work of the auto lobby. All cyclists are beautiful.

I’ve seen SO many “mixed bike” couples out and about - one partner on a regular bike, one on an ebike. I love that this technology makes it so people with different physical abilities can ride together.

“Why didn’t you take a different route?” Because the safe one adds 20 minutes and two seep hills.

If cars got bike treatment, you’d riot.

Rather than heed the advice of his government’s own experts that ripping out protected bike lanes WILL NOT solve traffic congestion, Doug Ford is wasting taxpayer money and playing politics with your fundamental rights and freedoms.
On Sep 19, a pickup truck driver killed a mother while hospitalizing her 3-year-old daughter and husband.

103 pedestrians/cyclists were killed or severely injured by motorists in #Guelph last year - none by cyclists.

Yielding right of way to a pedestrian while riding a bike is a much more positive experience because you can see each others' faces.

They smile, you smile, everybody wins.

Contrast that to the nervous glance, wondering whether the invisible driver behind those tinted windows values my existence.

Drivers hate this one weird trick: matching the big number on the sign to the one on your dash.

Ford wants to ban school-zone cameras + fund “a million ways” later. Great! Build them now. Don’t switch off the only thing lowering speeds today.

Not two hours after a driver crashed his pickup truck into a family - killing the mother and injuring the child and father - an entitled driver ignored road closed signs and yelling cops while ploughing through the active investigation scene.

GCAT has been working on our "Better Streets" campaign for over a year now and we were looking at mobilizing nearby. I hope we can collectively aid this neighbourhood in any way we can.

“Helsinki has not recorded a single traffic fatality in the past 12 months, city and police officials confirmed this week.”

City engineer credits lower speed limits and smart design.

I agree. #Helsinki #VisionZero
Helsinki goes a full year without a traffic death
A city traffic engineer credits the success to lower speed limits and smarter design.

Turns out nothing motivates like a fine in the mail.

According to Ottawa data, before #speedcameras were implemented: only 16% of drivers followed the speed limit!

🟥 Before cameras: 16%
🟧 After 3 months: 57%
🟨 After 1 year: 69%
🟩 After 3 years: 81%

That’s not just a jump it's a shift in habits!
Say what? Vigilantism like chopping down speed cameras influences government policy now?
