The festive season can be a joyful time, but it can also bring added pressures. Social, family, or financial challenges, as well as mental health concerns, can feel especially overwhelming at Christmas.

That’s why we are reminding residents that free confidential support is available.

After finishing work for the Xmas break earlier this afternoon I decided to spend an hour cutting back spent plants and shrubs in the front garden before it got dark(er).

Just came in after filling the compost bin and needing a wee. Blimey my hands are colder than I thought they were! 😳🥶

Apparently we've all been good boys and girls and so have been told we can knock off from work early today.

Something of a surprise for me because I was sure I was on the Naughty List. 🤔🤣🤣🎅📜

There's a fine line between "thick leek and potato soup" and "creamy mashed potatoes with some chopped up leeks in them". I think I've just stayed on the right side of it today!

How to make your very own #Christmas indoor skating rink:

1) start to make some leek and potato soup for lunch,

2) accidentally and liberally drop water from washing the leeks all over the kitchen floor,

3) try to mop it up, thus spreading it around,

4) slide effortlessly towards the cooker.

It has become a Winter Solstice tradition for me to make a Yule log with my youngest granddaughter, Arrietty. Last year we decorated it with snowmen truffles, and this year we made a family of 10 chocolate marzipan hedgehogs!

At today's #Christmas gift crafting workshop, Emily showed attendees how to braided ties, paper stars, wrapped gifts in fabric and sewed bags from scraps of material. Big thanks to her for such a creative workshop using foliage and recycled materials.

A shiny greenhouse and a weeded bed in front. That'll do monkey, that'll do. #allotmemt #gardening #solstice

Just spending a couple of quality hours washing the greenhouse whilst it's low on contents.

The question is: are the marks on the inside of the glass, or the outside?

The answer appears to often be: whichever side you're not on. 😳🤣🤣

Anyway, Happy Easter! 😉

Winter solstice occurs today, Sunday 21 December 2025 at 15h03 UTC/GMT (3.03pm for you heathens).
It is traditional to tip your hat, to acknowledge that when it deigns to show its face it is said that 'the Sun has got its hat on', and also to skip-dance in pairs to the tune of 'Bring Me Sunshine'. 🌞

The Winter Solstice is almost here. At 3:03 PM today, the Sun is directly above the Tropic of Capricorn, the most southerly latitude it reaches annually. This leaves #Darwen #Lancashire with its shortest day of 7 hrs 25 min of daylight. By next Sunday, this will have increased to 7 hrs 29 min.
