The first image of #3IAtlas from ESA's JUICE mission is in!

I reprocessed the image to remove hot pixels (left) and the stars (right) to make the tail easier to see.

Okay, stargazers. If it's clear, then forget the 'supermoon'. Two-a-penny. Look east. See that bright object? Yeah? That's Jupiter. Grab some binos (this lazy astronomer dusted off his 10x42s). What did I see? Big yellow disk & all 4 Galilean moons lined up, 2 NE of J, 2 SW of J. 🔭

I think we can be fairly sure that the pope is a catholic. Also, bears definitely shit in the woods. But...

Started reading this. Gave up. Life is too short.
Also, WTF is corrupt FIFA playing at? Did I hear it's considering giving tRump a peace award?
Never mind Eurovision, we should boycott World Cup.

My god, I'm a boomer apparently (I thought it was pre-1960, but no!). However, I am not one of the top third that have squirrelled away most of the wealth. Honest.

I am pleased to report that one of our local climate action bods @suaclimate.bsky.social has clarified matters by responding in this week's Stratford Herald, and - yes - I think we're in close agreement, just walking on parallel paths.
In other news...
I have a letter in this week's Stratford Herald 🎉 re the South Warwickshire Local Plan & questioning the logic of a local climate action bod. (No, I've not suddenly gone all Trump -y!)

On grey winter mornings I often think how fortunate I am, & what a privilege it is to be alive at this moment in the whole approx. 13.8 billion years of the universe, & wander around chez #OhMG with a mug of coffee like Arthur Dent waiting for something to happen.
Is that the bin lorry I hear?

For the reading list! great new paper on the impact of satellite megaconstellations. 🔭
By 2040, ~40% of the images from Hubble Space Telescope, and more than 96% from new and future space telescopes like SPHEREx, ARRAKIHS, and Xuntian will be contaminated by internet satellite constellations.

This evening I attended my second lecture at the Stratford upon Avon Astronomical Society. My takeaway is that Stonehenge is a wonderful engineering/architectural/cultural achievement, but is pants when it comes to being an astronomical/religious calendar.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."
