I forgot to write this when I was making the original account but please, do show that you are 18 or over in your bio before you follow me. Thanks
Not gonna do a grand introduction like I did on Twitter but I'll change it up slightly and restrict this account to 18+ to allow for more crossposting with my main account.
You're not getting through these groups without decentering real estate as a metric of growth
The Abundance movement often points to environmental groups as the obstacles to building. But who actually files the lawsuits blocking projects? It’s not environmental groups. It’s been lawyered-up HOAs protecting property values all along. Regulation by litigation is the problem.

And I ran into a glitch (:
Playing HL2 and I may be hallucinating, but the people who said this was miles apart from the original are so wrong it hurts.

This is just HL with better textures, more interactivity, and a MUCH stronger story (although I do think trading the horror for a larger sense of dread does lose points)

America is foundationally bad and there's no way you can have a serious discussion about reforming the US because it would be impossible to do so. It has to go for any real change or liberation, popular or not
i have been thinking a bit about how any political program that requires the premise of “america bad” is a dead end

Multiple Palestinian accounts that I’ve shared in the past few hours are already deleted - I swear, these bans are being handed out faster and faster, while Palestinians are suffering through horrific weather conditions in little to no shelter.

I feel like this isn't an either/or case, and honestly—while being completely experimental or deciding to go for pure populism can go well—a lot of my favourite art does both.
Keep thinking about this term "pre-digested" that Kojima used to describe art that's instantly gratifying. And how it's better when people grow to love something instead.

I've gravitated, as player and designer, toward the latter, but that term "pre-digested" is new and feels very strong.

Video game developers—hell, software engineers in general—need to discover the power of unionization.

"But we don't need to unioniz—" Crunch and 996 culture are seeping into dev spaces *because* of this attitude.
Naughty Dog, having tried to eliminate crunch, is still crunching:

Two things to add on to this
1. We need to be specific with this: we're focused on Text-to-Image models and LLMs. Stuff like enemy AI are (mostly) exempt from this
2. There's a secret third option (pirate everything that uses TTI models or LLMs)
if AI is a hardline no for you, as it is for many of us, you gotta start getting into truly independent shit or simply accept the slop. i don't think AI is "inevitable" but i do think the tech-adjacent games industry is currently and in the near future saturated with it

thing about graphical realism is that a lot of the games that cynically chase after it don't care enough about the visual language of film they are trying to copy to make the realism actually interesting let alone work in games. something as basic as colour palette and scene framing is a good one

Art is important because it is the practice of feeling things. When you're younger, I think art is pretty indistinguishable from life because art is play. Feelings are genuine, well-meant, awkward, inchoate and unfiltered. To make a cow with crayons is similar to play-acting with your playmates

Everyone's making fun of these two but this genuinely terrifies me. The way people are so dependent on technology makes me very afraid that if and once these technologies go out of reach...

That can just be hacked into or removed. Honest opinion to stop this is limit the *size* of a car and specifically a car's engine
one of my longstanding takes is that car manufacturers should be forced to install mandatory speed limiters in every new vehicle and people react to that like I'm advocating to strip them of their right to free speech

Lost a lot of respect for free speech as a concept due to the ability of bad faith actors being able to legitimize discourse that will eventually lead to the painful downfall of not only me but the people I love.

Also wanted to add an addendum: The fact so many games are open world now makes it difficult to create differentiation between environments while simultaneously keeping the difficulty gradient relatively even
Gonna push back slightly by saying that it isn't so much that there's less mechanics so much as there isn't enough variety in how those mechanics are applied and used throughout a game (which is your critique on level design but can also come into general game design and metas)
played like an hour of the first medal of honor today? that game's pretty cool. games used to have way less mechanics and way more level design
