The article wants people to hate and exclude mask wearers. Why anyone would set out to pick on older, disabled, higher risk, unwell, or just appropriately concerned minority that doesn’t get invited to anything anyway is well…

In fact, wearing a respirator is how we enter society. It’s how we deal with living with people that do not understand the danger, and if they read the telegraph… they never will.

JFC. How long are we gonna do this?!

"Exposure to higher aerosol concentrations - at close range or due to concentration build-up in crowded &/or poorly ventilated spaces - &/or longer duration exposures facilitate disease transmission."

Water is wet. Ugh.
Reports show how mpox clade 1b spreads through non-sexual contact in DR Congo, Ireland

Large family sizes and crowded living conditions may play a role in transmission.

I'm not familiar with that one, but I imagine it is related to this?

It's noteworthy that Guyatt got caught up in this, and illustrative of the fact that whoever picks the pickers picks the cherries.

The process can give good answers, but it really is just formalized GOBSAT - no real safeguards.

Note the linkage between the takeover of medical decision-making by "Evidence Based Medicine" heuristics - where 2+2 can be 5 if those running the process want it to be - and the explicit rejection of the value of the subject matter expertise that provides safeguards against manipulation:

🧵:
OK this is ridiculous. The draft new Canadian public health guidance-development mechanism doubles down on excluding subject matter experts from voting roles, restricts membership to people from inside the EBM pseudoscience bubble, and sets up to funnel public money to McMaster-GRADE courses etc.

The document on how infection control leaders 🤬'ed up SARS-CoV-1, that they chose to ignore and 🤬'ed up SARS-CoV-2.

The resulting commitment bias is why you don't see N95s in hospitals.

The sheer dedication to avoiding any mention of COVID when talking about things that we know for certain are heavily impacted by COVID is...impressive.

The "after pandemic" bit is a red flag too - someone's either not keeping up, or deliberately trying to manipulate the narrative.

In sorting my own thoughts about the moment, I began writing about the way science is being used by bad actors under the guise of "evidence-based medicine". I also talk about the limits of our ability to fully boil down evidence into axioms that make subjectivity irrelevant.

It's ridiculous that (at least) one of the country's most prominent medical schools taught students concepts that were out of date before their grandparents were born!
