One of the reasons servicemembers, from admirals and generals to the greenest private, should know “don’t follow illegal orders” is that this administration is a goulash of dishonorable character flaws like cowardice and dishonesty. There is no bus under which these pissants will not throw you.
NYT:
Five officials told us that Hegseth had nothing to do with the second strike

Washpost (which broke the story 2 days ago):
“This is ‘protect Pete’ bullshit,”
and
“It’s throwing us, the service members, under the bus.”

"Republicans will never allow articles of impeachment to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, and we know that's the case."

This is a flat-out 100% lie from @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and he knows it. Impeachment resolutions are privileged, they can force a vote at any time.
For some reason Democratic leaders seem to prefer telling voters what they won’t be able to do, rather than what they’d like to do.

If Hegseth ordered a war crime and lied about it, shouldn’t Ds try for impeachment? Put Rs on the spot. They might get a few defections.

“everyone is twelve” theory has reached Senator Kelly
Kelly: He runs around on stage talking about lethality and the warrior ethos.. That’s not the message that should be coming from the Secretary of Defense… He runs around on a stage like he’s a 12 year old playing army. It’s embarrassing.

Killing shipwrecked survivors in the water is a quintessential war crime and one that resulted in the death penalty at Nuremberg. Hegseth is a murderer and war criminal as is every individual in the chain of command that this order traveled through. Punish every single one of them.
Pete Hegseth denies he gave the order to kill them all. But even some Republicans now appear to be demanding answers, so Frank Bradley, who oversaw the bombings, is in discussions with House Armed Services about coming in.

Rep Adam Smith lays out his Qs to me here:

Q: Was the initial order from Hegseth to kill everyone and did that come from President Trump?

LEAVITT: I would reject that Hegseth ever said that. However, the president has made it quite clear that if narcoterrorists are trafficking illegal drugs toward the US he has the authority to kill them

mainstream Democrats rushed to throw trans people under the bus based on a wild misread of 2024 that conveniently absolved them of responsibility for the loss
"When we look at opinion polls about what actually motivates voters and their choices at the ballot box, trans issues are often dead last. And it’s worth noting that much of that polling makes no distinction between positive or negative views of trans rights." www.liberalcurrents.com/trans-panic-...
Trans Panic? More Like Trans Apathetic
2025 shows trans rights aren't electoral poison. The truth? Most people just don't care that much.

Hahaha, right?! Or what about mandatory disclosures for the discrepancy between the salaries of the CEO and their lowest paid worker? That would be so funny, right?! Let’s do it as a funny joke!!!

I'm really glad to see someone like Kelly finally saying this. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Mark Kelly: "This president, when he says things like 'third world countries,' what is he really saying? I think what he's saying is he doesn't want brown people in our country. And that's disturbing. It's un-American."

Thread, on why we need specific (and realistic) goals for the Second Reconstruction.

And I think it doesn’t just motivate those who want to resist, but it silences the preemptive self-surrendering doomers, whose entire stock-in-trade is to equate their lack of vision w actual helplessness.
The weakness of Democratic (and lowercase-d democratic) rhetoric right now isn't, in general, that it lacks "we'll fight!" They say that a lot. It feels like insipid weak tea because it's so rarely followed up with specific goals and methods, what you intend to actually do in the face of the crisis.

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother
