Shouldn’t it be “you don’t *really* need that expensive cable”

TIL that the aggro af wasps you see in late summer are worker wasps who have finished their nest tasks and are all out seeking sweet stuff and raising hell for the locals with the last days of their lives while waiting to die, wasps are basically just the insect version of retired Brits in Spain

For some reason I had laboured under the misapprehension that Moseley disappeared from politics after the 1930s. But he was still at it in the 60s. I did not realise that there was a direct unbroken line of continuity from him to Farage via the National Front. Anyway, Bertie shows us how it’s done.
In December 1961, the British fascist, Oswald Mosley, sent Bertrand Russell two of his books. Mosley wrote of ‘the two root differences between us' in international politics, and subsequently invited Russell to lunch. On 22 January 1962, Russell declined the invitation in these terms.

Dear Sir Oswald,

Thank you for your letter and for your enclosures. I have given some thought to our recent correspondence. It is always difficult to decide on how to respond to people whose ethos is so alien and, in fact, repellent to one's own. It is not that I take exception to the general points made by you but that every ounce of my energy has been devoted to an active opposition to cruel bigotry, compulsive violence, and the sadistic persecution which has characterised the philosophy and practice of fascism.

I feel obliged to say that the emotional universes we inhabit are so distinct, and in deepest ways opposed, that nothing fruitful or sincere could ever emerge from association between us.

I should like you to understand the intensity of this conviction on my part. It is not out of any attempt to be rude that I say this but because of all that I value in human experience and human achievement.

Yours sincerely,
Bertrand Russell

At our old place we’d have recommended you a nice loop along with cafe and pub stops. Then put your bike in a very secure store with our own bikes 🙂

Always book directly with hotels if you can.

Booking dot con and Expedia will be taking 15-20% of the room fee so hoteliers - especially small independents - will love you for using their website, which will often offer a cheaper rate too.

This lot are so inept, they couldn’t even announce this at a point where it might have influenced the by-election they’re going to finish 3rd in 🤦🏻‍♂️

Just listening back (as I will be for the next few weeks 🙄) on catch up.

This Adjua set is just stunning - I mean I really shouldn't be surprised as she's fast turning into one of my favourite live artists but just brilliant. Thanks for playing it

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

Today I learned “Cheers Drive!” when you get off the bus is a Bristol thing too. Bizarrely I found this out in Manchester

I very much hope they're aware of the SFA song of the same name?

The green cross code is the most disastrous public information campaign in history. It has made generations believe that pedestrians are responsible for avoiding crashes. Crashes are actually the responsibility of the operators of the massive motorised lumps of metal.

Nigel Farage accuses teachers of "poisoning our kids" on race issues.

Here's a reminder of what teachers and fellow pupils at Farage's own school remember of his own views on that subject.

Yes I know - but BBC’s response to a complaint about preventing use of Sounds will (legitimately) be that you can still stream it from the Sounds app via Airplay/Bluetooth to a Bluesound device

Not the optimum solution - but deeper integration is on Bluesound to implement and they’ve chosen not to
gethin76.bsky.social
From what I can see they’ve provided a pathway for any company to properly integrate it. Some like Sonos have, BlueSound have chosen not to
gethin76.bsky.social
Their response to that will be “nothing stopping you using BBC Sounds app”

Or “about 10:30am” as that’s known in my house 😂
