It's not *new* new, but I've put together a compilation of all 11.5 hours of Sonic retrospectives I've made so far!

And this is only like half the history! I shudder to think about how much longer this thing will get when and if I make it to the present day. :V

I do love the First Contact era dress uniforms, though! If COVID hadn't happened and we could've had a bigger ceremony, we were seriously gonna do exactly this for our wedding. xD

Everybody loves the First Contact look. It's fine, but I don't love it!

This scene from Trials and Tribble-ations, where O'Brien and Bashir can't figure out how to make the turbolift move, is their own personal Carnival Night Zone moment.
A scene from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Clad in Original Series uniforms, O'Brien and Bashir are in a turbolift trying to work out why it won't respond to voice commands.

Not pictured: O'Brien starts trying to make it move by bouncing with good timing but Bashir keeps throwing the rhythm off.

today's coworker had kindergarteners watch 15 minutes of kingdom hearts cutscenes bc she typed in "toy story 3 full movie". she cleaned the entire classroom with no reaction to sora being on the tv and only switched it once she was done. which was also right after the word 'xehanort' was said

I do, but the question was about which game was worse, not which game I disliked more.

the weird little laugh is the honesty betraying the lie here. all current Potter projects exist strictly to allow JKR the ability to purify the franchise in her eyes. everyone participating has been vetted to ensure they never contradict her hate campaign. everyone participating is a transphobe.
ladyemily.nebula.tv
The thing that gets me about actors responding like this whenever they’re asking about JKR is that they always say “we need to learn to agree to disagree ^_^” as if trans people are the ones leading the campaign, when we’re just trying to live our lives while JKR posts about trans hate 24/7

Oh that's easy. I bought a whole expensive-ass console I couldn't even afford for it, because I just *had* to see it for myself.

Oh, this is about which characters I find the most fun to play in Smash.

I thought that would be obvious because there's no other context where I'd put a true video game hero like Diddy Kong lower than so many no-name RPG characters.

Get out. Go away. The next #Kongversation is off-limits. You shouldn't listen to it. @geekcritique.org and I will discuss Donkey Kong Bananza's Sublayer 1500. It's restricted. Leave.

Today was Gregg Mayles' last day at Rare. He posted this lovely little farewell over on social media. Since he's not on Bluesky, I hope he doesn't mind me sharing it here.

There's probably no video game designer, let alone creative mind, who has had as much of a positive impact on my life as Gregg.
A poem by Gregg Mayles, including a photo of him looking out at the countryside with Googly Eyes.

A Rather Resplendent Rewarding Rare Ramble

Grant me moments of your time,
To tell a story versed in rhyme,

In eighty nine this tale does start,
When famous wall did fall apart.

Still standing tall a lad left school,
Who'd employ this daydreaming fool?

A chance arose to go into banking,
Choice he ignored and forever thanking,

Local paper had tiny ad,
Go join Rare? WHAT! You must be mad!

He tested games then got into design,
Which somehow turned out reasonably fine,

Mentored by the Ultimate greats,
Expectations of Rare game traits,

Each game adding to his skills,
A memorable ride of many thrills,

First three toads and then some apes,
Donkey, Diddy, barrels of japes,

Grand adventures of bird and bear,
Whacking Ghoulies with haunted chair,

Critters of paper in gardening charm,
Sporting parties waving leg and arm,

Sailing pirates through stormy weather.
Players creating stories together,

Others too, much less well known,
With Rare magic in them sown,

Wonderful games made by splendid teams,
Enchanting players have been their dreams,

The Ruby Ramble one final chapter.
Of lovingly crafted games and laughter,

For here is where this story ends,
Thirty six years it's been my friends,

For come the day October fourteen,
At Manor Park then no longer seen,

His sack of fun upon his back,
To set off down a different track,

Leaving behind some parting advice,
Have no fear, it's helpful and nice,

If captivating players is what you seek,
Keep on making Rare games unique!

Now time to start new tales to tell,
Farewell to Rare he waves, farewell!

Gregg

Sad news everyone, I’m officially pulling the plug on Brightsiders, my super fan podcast for the 2017 movie Bright. I still feel like there were many interesting topics left to discuss but after 7 years of weekly episodes I’ve learned that no one has ever listened to the show.

Ooh, yeah, it's neat how you can draw them and it'll try to identify them! That's what I used. I'm still mainly on the "learning Hiragana and Katakana" step, but every bit of exposure helps!
