A war between Russia and Europe if it lasts more than a week will not be regional, Canada*, South Korea, Australia and Japan would also engage Russian forces and other allied nations would send supplies and troops from all over the world. It's a world war.

This is when it gets hairy. Putin needs an "dignified" off-ramp. With luck, clever people will offer him it. With a lot of luck, he will take the proffered compromise. But right now, in his 70s, with no line of succession, he may refuse and just up the ante, with God knows what consequences.
