Für Medienschaffende ist der Umgang mit der extremen Rechten zugegebenermaßen nicht immer einfach. Aber ein Lifestyle-Interview mit Chrupalla sprengt jeden journalistischen Rahmen. Hier wird nicht nur eine Plattform geboten, sondern extrem rechte Politik aktiv normalisiert. 🤯
Manchmal blicke ich komplett ratlos auf, na ja, alles.

Das Problem mit der Normalisierung Rechtsextremer ist, dass hier auch ein medialer Teufelskreis entsteht. Je mehr diese Parteien normalisiert werden, umso mehr argumentieren die Medien dann, dass man sie ja nicht ignorieren könne. Und so wird ihnen immer mehr Raum gegeben. Siehe Österreich.

For the FES, I wrote a short brief about how mainstream party strategies have fueled far-right success. They move toward more anti-immigration positions to win voters back. This does not work, but shifts public opinion to the right. Parties then react to shifts in public opinion. A vicious cycle.

🇦🇹 Ex-chancellor Kurz is founding a political think tank, the "Global Shift Institute". Given his own ideology and ties to wealthy businessmen on the right and far right à la Peter Thiel et al, I assume protecting liberal democracy won't be among its core interests.

I've always been sceptical (and frankly, a bit annoyed) when people compare the democratic erosion under Trump to that under Orbán.
What happened in Hungary is not comparable to what is currently happening in the United States, just in terms of the (unprecedented) speed and scale in the latter.

Man darf hier anmerken, dass Frau Svazek heute mehrfach speziell gegen österreichische Staatsbürgerinnen mit Migrationshintergrund gehetzt hat. Es geht längst nicht mehr nur gegen Immigranten sondern auch Staatsbürger. Die politische Realität einer solchen Politik sieht man in den USA. #dasGespraech

Orbáns ideologische Kaderschmiede hat sich in einer 🇦🇹 Uni eingekauft, Kontrolle über einen großen 🇭🇺 Buchhandel- und Verlagskonzern übernommen und mit MCC Brussels bereits einen Ableger in Brüssel aufgebaut, um dort europäische Politik zu beeinflussen.
Auch unterberichtet: Kurz wird vom Mathias Corvinius Collegium hofiert und der Leiter war auch in Tirol.
Das MCC ist die Ideologieschule von FIDESZ und Orban und wahrscheinlich neben Heritage DER faschistische Think tank gerade.

It's worth noting that the ongoing normalisation of remigration plans in Europe is happening at a time when the Trump administration has turned "remigration" into an official national policy objective, and we can all witness the violence and illegality that this entails.
