The first digital audio editing I did in radio was ~1993 on one of the first DSE7000 workstations. I had to work overnight to get time on it. It had 22 minutes TOTAL of stereo audio storage. I had to dump segments off to tape as I edited them to free up room on the 40 MB HDD.

I'm only 53.
There was a time when I had a business that required a lot of digital storage. We paid $20,000 (around $40k in today’s dollars) for a 5-foot-high stack of interconnected drives.

They had 54 gigs of storage! Less than half of the iPhone I got for free when I signed a 2-yr contract.

I’m only 55.

It’s infuriating to me that I need to evaluate media to determine whether it’s AI generated now. The great “time saver” technology wastes incalculable time and energy for people who want to retain their grasp on reality

Feeling seen. Except for the plants.
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

When I saw what was across the street from where I parked for the TMBG concert tonight, I was flushed with excitement!

But how many people still have the same email address they had 20 years ago?

(Me. I do. 26 years and counting...)

It's sad that 65 years after the publication of this image, the ideas of George Lincoln Rockwell are having a moment, while the ethos of Norman Rockwell is being openly derided by millions.
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

The actually amazing, intelligent, thoughtful people don't get rewarded for it. They aren't rich, they aren't powerful, because our society doesn't actually reward hard work and merit and cleverness and expertise. It uses them, and then projects their virtues onto those who are on top by chance.

I have a very bad feeling that tomorrow is the day we have to put our sweet Sadie down.

Send all your kindest thoughts and distractions?

This is the worst part of having a dog in your life.

"But doctor, my Senate Democrat *is* Chuck Schumer"
If you’ve got a Senate Democrat who is not calling for new leadership, they’re part of the problem.

We should no longer trust Senate Dems who decline to come out against the leadership that led us here. Until proven otherwise, we should assume they were in on the game to fool their own supporters.
“After a year spent organizing to try to convince the Democratic Party to unify and oppose this regime, here’s where I am: The time for convincing is over. We need new leadership.” - @ezralevin.bsky.social

The funniest thing about Elise Stefanik is that she started out in politics as the kind of moderate R who could actually win statewide in NY, like Pataki did.

Her lack of any actual principles pulled her into MAGA-dom. Which will ensure she loses, and loses badly, next year.

Womp womp.

We live in the weirdest timeline. And I need a salami sandwich.
Defense begins, “This case, ladies and gentlemen, is about a sandwich. A sandwich that according to Agent Lairmore somehow both exploded on his chest in a spray of mustard and onions but also landed intact on the ground still in its Subway wrapper.”

So many people are going to look so ridiculous a year from now over how frothed up they got about Mamdani.

And I'm here for it.
‘Twas told New York would collapse into the infernal pit if Mamdani won but from where I’m sittin’ it looks pretty good to me

Send some good thoughts, if you would, for our Sadie dog.

The vet says her kidneys are in an advanced stage of failure - but she's not showing any signs of being an aging, ailing dog, and she's only 9.

We're hoping some meds and a change of diet will help.

In a way, I find the authoritarian takeover of our media system even more disturbing than the authoritarian takeover of our political system.

Our political system has been failing basically my entire adult life. But, the media system provided accountability and sort of worked. Now it’s collapsing.
