the inverse of this is how much of politics is now just accepting that you have to vote for people who hate you, so your best option is to vote for people who hate other people more than they hate you

I think the main refreshing thing about Mamdani, for me, is that he actually likes New York City and wants to see it thrive for everyone.

A preliminary review of service changes on the TTC effective October 12. The list is much longer than the info in this morning's press release. stevemunro.ca/2025/10/09/t... I will update the article when more info is available.

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?

They were also condescending and belligerent, but that's a centrist government for you.

I contacted my MP's constituency office to complain about cuts to Canada Post and they were confused as to why I was calling them instead of the minister responsible. Like, motherfucker, do you not know how parliamentary democracy works?

HOWEVER, let's be clear, rye bread is amazing, but marble rye is a crime against bread, and even the Onion should know better.

My favourite thing about the whole Lo-Fi Girl phenomenon is that I actually know the OG Lo-Fi girl. She sold it years & years ago. All the "lore" and shit that's been "revealed" since is hilarious.

Pleased to discover this one back in print, & at a very reasonable price point, too.

"[L]ike its predecessors, a near-faultless technical performance...[plus] 2 new items to the Beauman repertoire: relative structural simplicity and profound emotional resonance."

Does anyone have recommendations for a good laptop sleeve? I’m looking for something slim & durable, with at least a modicum of fashion sensibility. Perhaps made of dyneema.

The nazis themselves were not some clever masterminds where everything they did went perfect. They were also comical idiots who did ridiculous things, like invading Russia in the winter.

They gained power because the opposition couldn’t understand that the fascists were not rational agents.
olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social
that said: I think the "it's not fascism unless they're good at it" brand of analysis probably isn't the move

Time and again the Liberals have violated workers' constitutional right to strike by abusing Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code, showing they're with corporations, not workers.

Workers' rights are fundamental to democracy, not a minor inconvenience to be overridden without a second thought.

You know things are bad if Palantir is worried about reputational damage.

Palantir has pulled out of involvement with the UK Digital ID card, according to an interview with their UK CEO on Times Radio. They’re concerned about the reputational damage of being involved with an unpopular Starmer policy.
