Back in the summer of 2023, after my cat died, I spent 2 weeks building a particle physics animation engine in Blender Geometry Nodes, entirely on intuition. I also built a system to record animations as curves so they can be played back dynamically.

Nope. Moved a bunch of values to packed arrays, thinking it'd be faster to iterate over those after collecting them once, but naw. The original array of nodes is either faster or the same, and is easier to maintain.

eh, some bog witch linear algebra and GDScript. Performance is.... not wonderful, but I think I can squeeze a little more out of it.

It's strange, puzzling, maybe a little frightening, but also immensely satisfying how quickly and easily I can write a gravity simulation with simple collision detection these days.

I can't adequately describe what a mindfucking problem this is. Everything amounts to making the computer do fake work to give the appearance of real work that could more adequately be done by just running timers and saying "okay, it did that."

Mostly, I haven't been able to decide what level of "simulation" I wish to do. I want something more finegrained than your typical game, something more interesting than "I wait for this timer to finish, now that job is done".

Been at a little bit of an impasse today on my project (and feeling a bit ill). I can't figure out if this StarshipOS thing is something fun and interesting to work on, or a horrible slog that will never be interesting at all.

Thanks to ya'll here on Bluesky I found out my doctor was doing something illegal. Went to report it and found out that the agency where you report it to is permanently closed.

So that's cool and fun and the government is functioning perfectly, no notes.

Experimenting with Ghibli-style trees in Blender. Most of this is based off of @FaruqTawsif's amazing Ghibli-inspired asset library (link below), but I modified it to have a camera-vectored shadow texture on top, and a custom texture for the tree mesh itself.
