I have made a Maritime Archaeologists Starter Pack. I need to go through my follow/followers lists to populate it more fully, but please share and let me know who I should be including!

Teaching a #CPR course this morning (learn if you don't know how to - it is easy and saves lives) so I was wearing trousers. Someone I know failed to recognise me without my #kilt on! Not sure whether to be insulted or overjoyed...

There is an episode of Bugs Bunny where Yosemite Sam describes himself as 'a Hessian that ain't got no aggressian'

Watched the original the other night.

Such a brilliant film in so many ways. I particularly love the mundanity of the Nostromo and the lack of anything military/special training.

Following literary genres is a waste of time and resources - the only viable genres are books you like and books you don't.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

Is that genuine? I have it in my head that it was semi-autobiographical, but I am a geophysicist so very happy to learn from one who knows! Aprop nothing, I once did a magnetic survey at Norton Conyers House, which is allegedly one of the models for Thornfield Hall.

I think before we watch it we should discuss the bonus situation...

Do you think that's a box of Hessian-238?
A box with a printed label saying 'STABLE HESSIAN'. There are strands of hessian spilling out the top, suggesting that the hessian isn't as stable as they think it is. Perhaps that is the Hessian-235 isotope?

#ALD25 stands for Ada Lovelace Day. More details here: @adalovelaceday.bsky.social

You have all heard of Alan Turing, who did not invent Colossus*, the first programmable computer?

80% of Bletchley Park staff were women. Most of whom are unnamed. They deserve as much recognition #ALD25

* That was Tommy Flowers, but that's another story.

Ada Lovelace Day has begun! As midnight arrives on Kiritimati Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, our global celebration of women in science, technology, engineering and maths begins! Join us in celebrating by posting about your fave women in STEM #ALD25!

My favourite/least favourite (both, for obvious reasons) women in STEM story revolves around the dignity with which a close friend confronts the everyday unconscious sexism in her laboratory. #ALD25

Honourable mentions for Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin, Hannah Fry, Mary Anning, Gladys West, Hedy L

This is the first time in 15 years that I'm running Ada Lovelace Day without also putting on a big event in London, and I have to admit, it feels kinda weird.

If you have a minute, please share a story of your favourite woman in STEM with the hashtag #ALD25.

'The "victim"' here needs to grow up.

As John Hodge says: One thousand years from now there'll be no guys and no girls, just wankers. Sounds great to me.

This is rancid. Are we going to start applying this to every cishet man who lies about his marital status? Why the fuck should a trans woman have to disclose that she is trans? "I don't swing that way", my brother in Christ you clearly fucking do. Enjoy it and stop ruining trans women's lives.
