yeah I was thinking it was probably something along those lines like fertilizer for next year. I know crop dusting is inefficient and of course spreads easily beyond the fields so it’s not as common today, but for some reason idk they still do it around here

I attended the university of Illinois when the chief was “retired” and that experience more than any other crystallized for me how fucked that version of “honoring” indigenous legacy is.

Also, I’ve lived most of my life on land held by the Sauk/Fox, seeing the name Blackhawk on everything from sports teams to companies, and always found the faux honoring of Black Hawk grotesque considering the lengths the US government went through to destroy his people

from other branches of the family, I have ancestry from some of the first English settlers in America in the 17th century, as well as Irish immigrants in the 19th century, and finally from Hungarian immigrants in the 20th.

It just serves as an example of all the ways in which we came to be here

I really want to visit that part of the state again as the last time I was up there, I didn’t know about it. Doing genealogical research, I’ve found there is likely more from First Nations people in Quebec and Ontario, from intermarriage with French men in the 17th and 18th centuries

On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, thought I’d share that I do have a small amount of Ojibwe/Chippewa ancestry from northern Wisconsin, my grandfather’s grandmother. It’s not an identity I’ve ever claimed of course bc otherwise I am white and have been afforded the privileges this affords me.
