I have seen people claim this app is anti-right, anti-centrist, and anti-left…

Because this app IS indeed aggressively moderate liberal. It’s the Democratic Establishment of social media apps
Apparently, a growing number of radical leftists are returning to Twitter due to their distaste of Bluesky supposedly catering more to liberals than them. They're free to leave this platform if they wish.

I too think this app can be annoying and corny

But it being “anti-centrist” or whatever isn’t one of them
May 26, 2025 at 12:31 PM
It’s warranted. Stand with the people or accept life as their opposition
Yeah, there's good content here but growth FEELS like it's heavily slowed, and the reputation Bluesky has for harassing and bullying centrist and centre-left types is surely one factor.
people get mad at me when I say this but it's a Serious Problem for bluesky's long-term viability that the userbase actively tries to bully people they don't like off here

So then just do your fucking job!

“Boo hoo! The people I thought would celebrate me are actually holding me accountable and not swallowing everything we spew uncritically”

Grow the fuck up
It’s easy to dismiss this, but you can write off the fascists as being fascists on X the Everything App. It feels significantly worse to get yelled at during your job by the people who are supposed to be your friends and allies, especially when you have to be the one to respond to it.

one effect of the cartoonish supervillains running the country that I didn't anticipate: now when I watch anime I am much more sympathetic and forgiving to the writers' decisions about the dialogue and story arcs of actual cartoon villains

It's actually not hard at all.

I did it while serving as a Park Guide in the Declaration House where Jefferson penned the Declaration at Independence Hall National Historical Park
It’s fine if you think he’s a villain. I myself think he’s a villain. I think it’s hard to explain his behavior if you talk about him as a villain and simply stop there

It's not complicated at all. Not. At. All.

They are vile, racist, slavers. Full Stop.
The legacy of men like Thomas Jefferson and James Madison is COMPLICATED. Actually complicated. For instance, Jefferson is largely responsible for the Northwest Ordinance, which banned slavery from much of the North. But a lot of people don't want complicated, they want heroes or villains.

“Socialism (led by communists or socialist parties) has never worked”

Reality: even in 1986 and according to world bank data the USSR, East Germany, Cuba, Yugoslavia, etc had significantly better outcomes for calorie intake, literacy, infant mortality, doctors p cap, etc than capitalist countries

Quick, were Black people considered "men" by the drafters of the Declaration when they wrote that "all men are created equal"???
Wait are slaves mentioned in the Declaration?

Universal rights for WHOM?

Fucking dickhead
No one can deny that America has done a lot of awful things - but it was clearly not founded on ideals of “genocide” but on universal rights and an open society governed by the people for the people
Yeah, because its founding ideals were broadly fucked or built on genocide, you rube. But if you accept that you can actually try to make things better rather than dick riding your rosy idea of an American past that never existed.

Those men did not believe my people were "men"

FOH
Again, you can go read the Declaration of Independence for yourself and see what ideas these men found compelling, even if they themselves fell short (and usually very far short) of rebuilding society in accordance with those ideas

Which founding documents, cause that 3/5ths clause certainly made it into, quite possibly the MOST important one of them
No, my argument is that the founding principles of this country - the ideas that made it into the founding documents, which you can read for yourself - were not racism or slavery or genocide. Those things did exist in practice alongside the founding ideas, and were eventually mitigated by them
Will’s entire argument here appears to be “most people do not believe this country was founded on racism and genocide and they will get mad if you tell them that. And I will grant thats true most people don’t believe it. But that doesn’t make it any less true. Will goes further by denying it himself
