Silly, strident, queer, neurosomething, opera, etc. Settler in Mi'kma'ki. You know me from that thing.
For a while, they said if you needed tech help, ask a 10yo. But current 10-20yos didn't have to explore and click around and futz with things to get them to work, so if it's not immediately obvious, they can't do it.

Basically if you're 30-50 you're just doing tech support for everyone forever.
What we say is their kids know the tech of a phone. If it’s not on the phone they struggle

People are responding to this saying the line is sweetest friend, not Swedish friend. I don’t think there’s any way of knowing for sure since Johnny Cash passed away and he wrote it. But what are you going to do, *taste* all your friends? Pretty sure it’s Swedish.
In the song “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails, further popularized by Johnny Cash, do they sing:

“What have I become, my Swedish friend?”

Like you’re existentially asking your pal Bjorn.

or is it more like

“What? Have I become my Swedish friend?”

Like you may have become Bjorn.

They did a good job editing away the glaring weirdness, and packaging it in a tear-jerker so you feel generous and glad.

Truly insidious stuff, because it makes us distrust our kind emotions

Thread on how to detect ai in that viral dog video
Yeah, I mean, I'm critical of any video nowadays that is trying to elicit an emotional response, especially when it's asking for subs at the end. It's weird that all the people seem to end up with the dog they want. And shelters are overflowing, where are the rooms full of people wanting to adopt?

For comparison, every robotic mission NASA has ever sent in its history, from the dawn of the Space Age 65 years ago to today, from Mercury to Pluto and beyond, has cost less than $40B.

I know which one has done more for humankind and which one should be dismantled.
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the ‘Metaverse’ has cost Meta more than $77B

The company now plans to cut spending on it and shift focus to AI wearables instead

Blocking weirdos is the one feature this app absolutely excels at. Two clicks & annoying strangers disappear forever. Unprecedented feeling.
I cannot stress enough that is some rando responds to something you reposted trying to draw you into a “but have you considered” discussion of it, they are not acting in good faith, and you just block. Please, embrace the blue sky way. block. block. block.

instant follow just for being the person to realize he had to find the puke hose man
Talked to the Mad Men special effects foreman holding the puke hose about all the (usually) invisible creative work that goes into making grounded TV feel real
Mad Men’s special effects foreman hasn’t seen the infamous 4K remaster

Get her a gig in broadcasting, if she wants it. That "Hello everyone, HERE he is," is better than ANYONE's SNL musical guest intro.

Had to cancel a gig last night coz my larynx exploded again (see pinned post, getting real tired of it tbh) and if anyone would like to see my Edinburgh show from this August I posted it on my Patreon so you can still see me yelling if you like.

I had no idea her name was pronounced Newsie. And the ex's name is pronounced like Lizzo but you forgot to do an O shape at the end.

Justice for the pizza-style zz in America!

I had such a great conversation with @chirila.bsky.social about what real things we can know about a still-mysterious manuscript
A book containing puzzling drawings and a strange writing system has intrigued cryptographers, historians, linguists, and more for centuries...

In our latest bonus episode we get enthusiastic about the mysterious Voynich Manuscript with @chirila.bsky.social!

It's because adult capys cannot be improved upon
Something I like about capybaras is how the babies really look like little adults, like you know most baby mammals have a roly-polyness or different proportions, a certain "baby" look the adults don't have, but capys just look like capys

Strong agree that a part of this particular panic is gatekeeping.
I see "Shut up Wesley" Streeting has now decided that since women are getting diagnosed with ADHD and helped, a stop must be put to this sort of thing ASAP.

FYI for those not subscribed to Scaachi Koul's newsletter, she included a few very displeasing sentences there.
This charred-remains-by-the-side-of-the-road review would also make me want to run to the woods and immediately die in a massive underground well. slate.com/culture/2025...
