I very definitely ripped off this visual to do something journaling with it.

Part of why I started a sketchbook journal is to embody all the anti-AI-art values I am interested in: slowness &roughness & personality & individual soul. Part of that is giving lots of credit to other creators so I think you should all watch this video on dam silting: youtu.be/XiUOBdEUqjY?...

Today’s sketchbook diary is copied from an image of a dam silting in by YouTuber Practical Engineering. The text reads : “All Dams are Temporary” and “This one is about grief.”

A sketchbook diary that records actual writing news: I finished a first draft of a new novel!

Writing research question for everyone: do you have a word for the object -- like a stuffed animal or a blanket -- that a young child latches onto and takes everywhere? What is that word, and where are you from?

I am having a penwiper moment.

Guys guys guys, today I learned:

A “baseline” is the BASE of a surveying triangle, the first step in measuring and mapping a place.

I try to avoid writing on the computer. I write long-hand or use a #neowriter device, which prevents me from editing as I go.

I do do a lot of editing and rearranging on my computer — I use scrivener — but I like to get my drafts out of the computer and onto paper at several stages.

Today’s assignment at @sketchbookskool.bsky.social is to document a process. This really wasn’t working until I added the yellow but now I kind of like it.

Anyway, this is how I write a first draft.

My most random/cool bookish claim to fame is that Gordon Lightfoot and I were once up for the same literary award* and I won.

*His nom was because someone made a picture book of one of his songs, making him the author of a children’s book.

This one is about my depression. I am holding my own.

The last contact was the Anderson asking the Fitz: “How are you making out, with your problems?”

The Edmund Fitzgerald answered: “We are holding our own.”

It’s her final radio message.

The Fitz wasn’t out there alone. She was sailing in company with the Arthur Anderson. When the weather turned the Fitz began to struggle — developing a list, and eventually losing radar. Unable to navigate, she asked the Anderson to lead them into harbour.

Yesterday I listened to the cover of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Home Free and had a good cry. Here you go!

youtu.be/Um1PCCkyYHE?...

But the thing that moves mr most the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald isn’t in the song.

EF: look, we have proofreading. It’s not hard. Let’s just do that.

Brain: … IF I COULD PUT TIME IN A BOTTLE …

Executive Function: Okay, troops. We have a meeting in four hours. But it’s chill. We are all prepared.

ADHD Brain: got it. we should do nothing at all until then.

EF: no, we could work on
