I started a new job today! I am Marketing and Development Manager for Willamette Writers! This is an organization I have been a part of as a member and volunteer for years and it is very cool to make my professional home there!

Today the biggest challenge facing writers is the overpowering urge to wander through a misty and forlorn moor, dressed up in full period costume, keening for your demon lover.

I want to hear about your acts of resistance and your calls to action. I want your jokes and links. I want to see how excited you are about your football team winning. I want to see your cat and your dog. I want to see you living despite it all. I want every defiant, soft, human, silly thing.

This is a huge crisis that we must do our part on by rejecting generative AI. The more it infiltrates our systems, the more fucked we are over time.
NVidia chief creep says resistance and scorn for AI have done a lot of harm. Good. Nice confirmation it's working. Keep it up. Although the main thing is this stuff is harmful crap so the mind and body tend to revolt against it automatically.

I run an events newsletter that promotes writer and reader friendly events in the Portland, OR area - PDX WRITE WEEK. It was on hiatus for about a month while I did a lift and shift from Mailchimp to Beehiiv and did some back end work. But it’s back!

For whatever reason, I didn’t give the album Egg & Dart by Murder By Death a good long listen until today and friends, that was a mistake. This is my kind of morose American bastard rock & roll. Hits the mood for the project I am working on right now like a splash of whiskey after a sucker punch.

Also, RE: Starfleet Academy as a guy with long hair I was horrified that they give the main character a non consensual haircut for “regulations.” Requiring men only to have short hair (but only human appearing ones?) is wildly gender binary and so weirdly 1950s heteronormative.
January 17, 2026 at 6:05 AM
Based on the first episode, Starfleet Academy is a tv show where they said yes to every note and idea everyone had. There’s some fun in there but it’s an over crowded show. If you cut half the characters and plots, I think it would be much stronger.

My 2026 reading has been a little slow because of my New Years Sick but just finished WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS by Grady Hendrix and I loved the hell out of it. I think it’s my favorite Hendrix book so far.
