To be fair, (what there is of) The Day the Clown Cried isnt as jaw-droppingly awful as youve heard or as Harry Shearer claims. Its just not high-quality. The story is actually pretty good, just *insanely* dark. But the film probably wouldve destroyed his career as a director.

The fact that Jerry Lewis *ever* considered releasing The Day the Clown Cried makes him the ballsiest director I can think of, and I cant fucking stand him.

Rewatched (what there is of) The Day the Clown Cried by Jerry Lewis last night. He was correct not to release it. His acting's awful. The sets make Hogans Heroes look like The Ladies Man. But it *does* have the single most fucked up ending Ive ever seen in a film, surpassing even Funny Games. A-
