The identity of the Dem nominee in 2028 will not be a significant variable in determining who holds presidential power in 2029. #uspol

In this video, I talk about how important local independent media has been in surfacing ICE abuse.

I should have included public defenders in there, too, bc with their help, these cases are crumbling.

A useful reminder that the road to political power is not paved with effective messaging from legislative caucus leaders.

I don't think many people, inside and outside of US, understand how absolutely 🦇💩🤪 the official communication of the White House is.

And while it is, undoubtedly, largely performative, the fact that it is considered effective and leads to little effective backlash says everything about this country

Education is not 'content,' & learning is something one does interactively, through experience and guidance.

We've heard about how expertise is going extinct ever since the internet put all of human knowledge up for free.

You'd think people would have learned, by now, that this was a mistake.

Important: this is exactly how propagandists operate.
NEW:

A dramatic voiceover video the White House and Donald Trump shared last week claiming to show "chaos" in Chicago is littered with outdated footage from Florida, Texas, South Carolina, Nebraska, California and Arizona, an AFP investigation found.

👇🎯 This. Also, we certainly wouldn't apply this excuse to all kinds of other demographics in American society, so let's simply not take it seriously here.
These “young boys” are men in their 30s.

Real men in their 30s don’t tell Holocaust and rape jokes, because they aren’t funny.
Exactly, especially at a time when the same adminstration bangs on about the criminality of some teens.

Yes. The appeal is never having to grow up or accommodate yourself to the needs or interests of others. It is enormously appealing, apparently. And not just to young people.
It truly appears that the desire to say this sort of stuff without being socially ostracized and so on has been a main driver of one side of our politics from the "anti-PC" 1990s all the way through the "anti-woke" / "anti-DEI" present.

A true political juggernaut, this desire certain people have.

They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

"The Media School directed us to print no news in the paper... nothing but information about homecoming — no other news at all, and particularly no traditional front page news coverage."
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.

Indiana University fires IDS
adviser amid push to control
student newspaper's content The director of student media at Indiana University was fired amidst a dispute between university leadership and editors at the Indiana Daily Student over what content gets printed in the student newspaper.

As director of student media, Jim Rodenbush did not directly oversee or have any say over the content published in the IDS, per a charter between the IDS and the university. But he told IndyStar his firing follows a series of meetings with IU Media School leadership in which it grew increasingly apparent they were expecting him to officially prohibit students from publishing news.

The entire incident is infuriating and terrifying. She’s a Latina woman who was working a service job. On her way home late at night, with her headphones in, she was detained for an hour by masked federal agents who wouldn’t give her their names.
Maria Greeley, 44, had just finished working a double shift at the Beach Bar on Ohio Street
earlier this month when she said she was surrounded by three federal agents who grabbed her, forced her hands behind her back and zip tied her.
Headphones in, Greeley had been focused on getting home to her two dogs for a walk.
Instead, she said she was detained by masked agents who did not answer when she asked for names. They questioned her for an hour, she said.

I asked ICE why they couldn’t comment on their own arrest. The agent said to direct questions to DHS. And it appears DHS is making accusations via X to justify the abduction of a child.

A thing I have learned from being online since 1995:

If you're a writer, editor, journalist, academic, you have to be ready to go contrarian when you feel it. And if you're feeling it all the time, such that it's become your idenitity, that's a signal. You broke your mind.

I make the Radio Rwanda comparison because my sense is that if a peaceful protester is killed by feds in Portland, OR; it seems more likely than not that Oregon Republicans would express little to no concern about it. They've so dehumanized Portlanders and "the left" that they'd shrug off murder.

Did Zack not realize that conservatives have never actually cared about “free speech,” and have always actually worked to limit speech they don’t like?

Has Zack not been paying attention to - the world and the things these people say and do in it?

I can't emphasize how important it is for people to understand that unless something FAR BIGGER than an election win happens, this is a pipe dream.

It would take quite a bit to get past qualified immunity.
I can't emphasize enough how important it is that the next attorney general set a team to go through ICE records with a fine tooth comb and prosecute individual agents.

It's the only way to stop this from happening again.

A city that burns down every night.

I mean, if we're just going to do this myth, Phoenix is *right there*
Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."
