"this country has become increasingly reliant on imported gas to produce electricity"

Genuine question: How much of this is due to trying to turn the country into one giant data centre, with the energy demands that brings?

That was a lot of huff and puff and zero cohesion. I have high hopes for Pavlovic but tonight he looked like he had no idea what his role was. Midfield was nonexistent

"where MAGA has arrived at: a place so far removed from observable reality that it now holds official government functions with imaginary enemies"

This describes the conspiracy theorist world perfectly: Spoilt, bored losers inventing epic quests to feel heroic. But now it's the state ideology

We're so relieved to see Germany reaffirm its opposition to the dangerous Chat Control proposal--the one that would mandate mass scanning of communications. Germany's long been a solid champion of privacy, and the news that it was considering backing mass surveillance was alarming. 1/

2. Market/promote alternatives to the European public, and the benefits of using them. A lot of people don't adopt them because they're simply unaware they exist, or assume they're vastly inferior.
European Alternatives is a decent start, but more is needed

2/3 As I see it, there are a couple of major things Europe has to do at institutional level

1. Provide generous support to genuine European alternatives. Can this legally be linked to commitments not to sell out when a big US player comes waving a bundle of cash?

We all need to be playing a part in this. I'm constantly looking for and testing alternatives. There are lots of interesting potential options out there

Ideally, when I say not American, I'm hoping for a company that isn't looking to build to the point where they get successful enough to cash in their chips for a Google/Microsoft/Meta acquisition

Interesting - thanks for reaching out.
The most important criteria are: No US element - including AWS, and ideally extending to US SSL, DNS etc;
Robust free tier;
Strong security/privacy

This is heartbreaking. You'll hear the excuse that "It's not America's job", but if you are capable - as the US is - of preventing children dying in pain, and you choose not to, that is objectively wrong. If you had a system that was already doing that, and you choose to shut it down...

Is this the kind of police force you want, where officers take it upon themselves to decide when it's justified to punch a member of the public in the face?
eoghan.bsky.social
Whether or not you agree with demosntrators' cause or tactics, a trained, equipped police officer should not simply assault people. There are far less violent ways of dealing with situations, all of which should be exhausted before resorting to thuggish behaviour
eoghan.bsky.social
There is a very obvious ongoing practice of Berlin police lashing out and punching people who are posing no immediate physical threat to them. It's abusive, it's unprofessional, and as of now it appears to be tolerated - unless I've missed someone in authority speaking out against it

And here we go. I never wrote this article, and yet it is cited here.

And of course, it sounds so plausible, I seriously checked whether I had forgotten it, or the footnote was slightly wrong.
