I think the school phone bans are good. But politicians, journalists, and activists who are only focused on thumbs up / thumbs down takes on childhood “screens” are intentionally unprepared to deal with the complex and sometimes dangerous cultures kids actually interact with online.
Watching the cable news commentary on the bullet engravings is wild because none of these people seem to realize that the content of the engravings are indicative of extremely online meme brain rot

We hired an internet culture reporter at Vox in 2016 (before the election!), and I remember the first thing they really brought to my attention was Harambe memes. I remember wondering if any of that shit mattered. Now I wish we had hired 10 internet culture reporters.

Watched a movie last night that I could only watch on my laptop, and also accidentally left my phone on the other side of my room. Took all my willpower not to retrieve the phone, but it was worth it. Want to retrain my attention span to be able to just fully focus on movies again like that.

Wrote and ran a DnD one shot tonight for my nephews (10 and 7) and had such a blast! We played Hero Kids a few years ago but this was their first taste of "real" DnD. They were such great players: creative, patient, collaborative, and clever. I'm so proud. 🥲

Been getting a lot of people asking about LA geography concerned that the images they see means the entire county is on fire. That's understandable.
