People are so afraid to admit that they, like everyone else, are susceptible to severe #covid and #longcovid that they refuse to mask.

To say people make a rational assessment of the threat environment around Covid… is just not true.

Most people refuse to talk about or read anything about Covid.

Long Covid has surpassed asthma as the most common childhood illness, and it’s rarely spoken of.

Unreasonable is the cognitive dissonance that Severe Infection, Long Covid and other Post Acute Infection Syndromes (PIASs) happen to other, weaker, lesser people. People with weaker immune systems. Not like Covid hasn't ravaged your immune system over the last 5+ years. Masking is the bare minimum.

So, the only tool we have to prevent the spread of COVID- to avoid infecting and sickening other people- is consistent masking. Which is frustrating. You could even call it unreasonable.

You could call the situation unreasonable. You could call the situation our government has put us in unreasonable. You could direct your frustration over said unreasonable, untenable situation upward, where it belongs: at the government, not downward, at struggling sick people, who have no choice but to engage with COVID safety practices including masking.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

As exciting as it is to see countries engage in protests/strikes, I resent the "why isn't America doing this" comments. Nepal has 30 million people and is 57k sq mi. Italy has 59 million people and is 116k sq mi. The US has 340 million people and 3.81 MILLION sq mi. The scale is not comparable.

It’s highly unusual and certainly doesn’t build “trust” in this committee.
