I don’t think 100% attendance is the be-all-and-end-all of education but children can definitely miss out when they’re not in, even for a couple of days.

I think this is brilliant but I’m somewhat confused as to why he drove them home and then slept in his car with them for three nights because he was worried they might be stolen when he could have popped them under his bed and slept a lot more comfortably

Martha is 4. If she were 6 she’d be in Year 1 or 2. Reception is an odd year legally in that a child must be educated only from the term after s/he becomes 5. Alice could take her away for a week without legal repercussions. However, there might well be educational ones which is what worries her.

This is the little clock that sat on a teacher’s desk at Pantglas Junior School, Aberfan. It stopped for ever at 09:13 on 21st October 1966 when an unstable coal tip engulfed the school. 116 children and 28 adults were killed.
