Admittedly, I was thinking abt it from an angle of having formerly been very against the nature of those posts/convos but had seen instances of poc expressing that they found them cathartic to voice fandom grievances, so I’ve almost had an opposite journey on that front.

Ik for some of my friends, it’s cathartic to post into the void abt various fandom culture they’re tired of.
In that sense, I understand em! Those kinds of posts do tend to bum me out personally just bc I don’t like ruminating too hard on why I’m uncomfortable playing in the space, so to speak

I do however think that queer circles need to practices accepting other members’ artwork in better faith
(Were that the case, I would feel comfortable sharing personal characters/stories more openly! I’ll sometimes drop tidbits but most of my yapping is limited to interested friends/acquaintances)

I empathize w the source of the weirdness! Current sociopolitical climate leads to a lot of high tensions abt perceived -phobias, but this often leads to queer ppl getting very upset at one another’s genuine, well-meaning portrayals bc experiences and identities aren’t universal

Whenever there’s a “why would ur oc cause discourse” question, I’m always like. Mmrmm. Bc a lot of the reason why I don’t elaborate much abt my ocs is bc they often do not fit neatly into gender or sexuality boxes + other people get very weird about that 🤔 #zyaps
