Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.

exactly!! they've both been recreated in ways that i think tell the core stories significantly better. i tried reading phantom a few years ago and was surprised at how bad it actually was as a novel. the '92 dracula movie is just a masterpiece and made the book feel regressive and dull in comparison

i wish i could remember the name of this book but the first romance novel i ever read at 13 was a random paperback in walmart that i begged my mom to buy for me, and the guy in it had to think about carnage and war while fucking the heroine so that he wouldn't come too fast. it was incredible

to expand on the first point re: YA too - the early to mid aughts were a great time for YA because the genre actually felt tailored to teens. nowadays it seems anything written by a woman or with a young protag gets shafted into YA, and a huge swath of readers are grown adults. it warps the genre.

YEAH this is what's so scary about it! the wol is a supernatural being with an otherworldly power, and they get completely flattened by ordinary people. sans ilberd who did it for ala mhigo, the other braves' greed was enough to overpower us and bring us to our knees. it rules!!!!
