Minneapolitan since 2019. Working on fully assimilating by cargo biking with 2 kids and playing beer league hockey.
4 year old was asking for studded tires the 14" wheels on his bike. I told him if he was willing to pedal up any hill no matter how slight the grade, we'd talk about it. He got very quiet.

Just missed a milestone today and didn't have time to go around the block. That's 1999 miles since March made up mostly by twice daily trips to daycare and preschool that would have been otherwise made by car.

40th Street east if 35W is such a mess. East of Chicago, it somehow gets worse. Biking the 1 mile I need to go takes about twice the time that it should, and it feels incredibly unsafe. I think I'm giving up on the bike Boulevard, and instead using 38th and just dealing with cars.

I wasn't prepared for biking to work yesterday, so today was the first day of a 17 mile one way bike commute in the snow this year.

St Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Eden Praire have done a phenomenal job plowing 3 river park trails. Made the full trip with zero issues

On the topic of "no bad weather just bad clothes," I bought insulated snow pants and tried them out this morning, biking my kids to childcare. In single digit temps, I was sweating - hard. Serious swamp butt.

40th, east of 35W, is pretty messy. It's technically passable, but i was fishtailing more than I liked with my kids in the bike. I abandoned it and just went down 38th.

Bryant south of 40th and 40th (west of 35w) got a pass with a plow this morning. A little snow and ice but totally manageable with snow tires. 40th gets worse the further east you go.

Biggest challenge this morning is the wind.

Rushing to get these studded tires on the Urban Arrow so I can ride tomorrow. The longer it takes, the more I sweat in this 40 deg garage. 😅

I do that every night.

Some evidence of friendly fire in @thewaroncars.bsky.social on Bryant Ave tonight.

Is the Nicollet Ave exit of the Midtown Greenway open these days?

No suprise, MSP is on the list.

I saw a gaggle of green line trains just south of Shady Oak station this morning. I feel like a proud dad watching his kids take first steps.

The bike/ped detour was 75% torn up this evening. Only the last few hundred feet on the east end still there.
Some construction on going still at West Lake Station, but look what they let me do this morning!

I am not prepared. I need to get studded tires on my bike.
I've been sleeping on this one - but you shouldn't. There's a CHANCE of some light snow accumulation overnight. Some model runs still showing it missing us entirely - some 1-2" of slushy snow (I'd expect roughly 1" to be safe). Timing is just after midnight - so you'll know when you wake up! #MNWX

Doing my duty as a secular Jew and teaching my kids to dance to Fiddler on the Roof in the living room tonight. Tradition!

Teamwork makes the dream work!
Apparently @eikleinbaum.bsky.social have become the Bryant safe streets team.

I think an extremely effective graphic for MN would be to show how the length of ice fishing season has changed since the 70s. That would really change some hearts and minds.
A few graphics showing how climate change is affecting the state. More in the story!

This is why Palmisano keeps getting reelected!
I have favorite beers from Mayor Frey, Council Member Palmisano, three incoming Park Board Commisioners (Jason Garcia, Kedar Deshpande, and Daniel Engelhardt), and Steve Brandt. I have promises for a couple more, but I gotta say I'm a little bummed I don't have more yet!
I spent my evening advancing the cause of hard-hitting journalism by emailing everyone who won a municipal election in Minneapolis or St. Paul (25 people!) to ask them about their favorite Minnesota beer. The Strib can’t be trusted to do this. Only I can.

A pickup and Uhaul blocking both Bryant bikeway and the sidewalk.

I can not figure out how someone would even consider this to be appropriate.

Submitted to the city as an accessibility issue. I feel like i already know the resolution to this.
