I’m always amazed by this particular phrase. Presumably nobody using it has ever been to an Irish social event, where the farewells have a tendency to develop into a whole autonomous social event of their own.
100% correct about the value of the ‘Irish exit’. It always amazes me when people leaving early insist on making it extremely clear that they are leaving early. No one cares! Just go.

Martial law declared in South Korea 40 minutes ago. It can be lifted by a majority vote in the national assembly, but they are blocking the building with police buses.
