I really don't like Brexit and Boris. And most of the Tory party. Plus Farage and his bunch of c**ts. Not fond of Apples and Cauliflower either. Don't get me started on the Orange Man-Child. Also, no more home ownership, build to rent cheaply!

As usual Farage denied meeting with Yakavenko despite being photographed with him. Farage is a Russian stooge and a liar

Yes! Rejoice in the lack of freedom! We will do what we do best, queue and moan about those foreigners making our lives a misery! How wonderful, how British! And we have our sovereignty, or at least we have a sovereign. Envy of the world... Bah.

In case you missed it ...
Barnier has said many times over the years that the door is always open for us to rejoin the EU. We'd lose the rebate we used to have, of course. But anything would be better than continuing our isolation and decline with Brexit.

Doesn't really matter if the government blames Farage, because he's not the one raising taxes and blame seems not to stick to him. Blame the beggar by all means, but raising taxes without fixing the cost-of-living crisis is not a good look, unless those rises are aimed at very rich folks.

Farage can't be trusted? What about Johnson, Truss, Sunak, Starmer, etc.? All ardent Brexiters, all "trusted" to run Britain. If Farage was given a go, I wonder how much difference we'd notice? It would still be a really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really bad idea though...

Ever since I finished Question Time, Reform have massively been on the attack.

Including a rant from Richard Tice entirely designed to distract from Reform and Russia.

Everyone should know about Nathan Gill, the bribes from Russia and the link to Reform.

If we had been serious about making Brexit work, we would have hired the Germans to manage it for us...

My view on Brexit, at the time and now, was that no matter what the promises of sunlit uplands, our government (of any flavour) would never be able to make it work because none of them have ever been able to manage a piss-up in a brewery.

There is a malign influence that affects politicians, especially those in power, that stops them doing the right thing. I believe this is the best evidence we have for the existence of Satan...

We all know that Brexit has been an utter disaster. Obviously the tories and reform can't admit that, because it was their idea, but why can't Labour admit it and reverse it? Something to do with power and wanting more, perhaps...?

I believe that watching the excellent 70s TV series, The World at War, should be compulsory. The first episode is so today, and it reinforces that idea that if you don't learn from history, you'll repeat it...

Water prices are going up, along with energy, fuel, food, etc. The UK government's response? Allow pubs to stay open longer, so that people with no money can buy drink at inflated prices (£7+ a pint please). Beggars belief...

Not only is the McSweeney government anti-migrant.

It's not even really working for growth, where that interferes with appeasing and trying (and failing!) to attract the xeno voter.

Idiots.

Glasman McSweeney is pointing Labour in the wrong direction, and must GO.

My view is that the government should be encouraging (in every way, shape and form) local authorities to build for-rent-only housing, with rents set at a level people can comfortably afford. You don't need to own a house for it to be a home.

"We don’t expect official figures on net additional dwellings—the government’s metric for this target—until the autumn. However estimates published so far suggest the government needs to pick up the pace of building to hit its target in the current parliament."

Let's hope this happens! There's too much land in private hands.

Would I oppose help for first time buyers? Yes, because I am fundamentally opposed to home ownership. That's me, I just don't agree with it.
earon66.bsky.social
Obviously there are people that can afford these prices, but they tend to be incomers rather than locals. £1200pcm is not a realistic, affordable monthly rent for many locals. Living costs are totally mad in this country, e.g. our water rates are £700 a year, up from £500 last year.

"This isn’t magic — the shortage stems from decades of underbuilding and right-to-buy; rebuilding social stock needs money and time." Absolutely. This is an issue that has been decades in the making and needs real drive and focus to rectify.

"Ministers are setting up review work to align rents/prices with local wages and clamp down on exploitative “affordable” definitions." Great!
"Would you trust a proper review to make “affordable” real for local people?" Yes, if that review is honest and open.

Again, how's this £39bn project going? Please, I'm happy to be proved wrong, but I all I read about this project is that it is stalled due to a lack of skilled labour, planning issues and projected high costs.

It shouldn't just be about "key workers", it should be for all. Making something available just to key workers is just another way of hiding the fact that they have no solution to tackle the overall housing crisis.
